May 30, 2003 - Télébec Mobilité and NorthernTel Mobility welcome the contribution
of CED, NSERC and Canmet
At a press conference held today by the federal government, the Télébec – NorthernTel Group greeted with enthusiasm the joint contribution of Canada Economic Development (CED), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and Canmet.
“It goes without saying that this generous contribution will further strengthen the continuation of the Télébec Mobilité Laboratory research project, conducted for the purpose, you may recall, of developing a leading-edge cordless telecommunications system to support underground metal mining operations,” says Richard Hélie, Vice-President, Sales and Strategic Solutions, Télébec – NorthernTel Group.
Like Canada Economic Development, NSERC and Canmet, Télébec Mobilité and NorthernTel Mobility make it a point of honour to invest in research and development in a project that touches regional concerns in many ways. “By investing here in a sector of activity of primary importance and establishing a partnership with our university, we all make a very concrete contribution to the development of our region,” adds Richard Hélie. By 2004, Télébec Mobilité and NorthernTel Mobility will have invested close to $900 000 in the laboratory project.
This research partnership with UQAT and the mining industry is one more opportunity for Télébec Mobilité and NorthernTel Mobility to put their capacity for innovation to work. It also makes it possible to further develop expertise within the region in teaching and research in mining and to make the region a pole of excellence in the mining industry.
