Télébec is proud to announce that, as part of the federal government’s Broadband for Rural and Northern Development Pilot Program, the company will provide High Speed Internet access to residents in four municipalities.
Bellecombe, in the Rouyn-Noranda area, Clerval and Roquemaure, in Abitibi-Ouest, and Beaucanton, a doorway to the James Bay territory, now have access to High Speed Internet.
Once work is completed, Télébec, a partner in the project developed by the Centre des technologies de l’information et des communications de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue (CTICAT), will provide High Speed Internet access to a total of 61 communities in 46 municipalities.
A project totalling over $20 million dollars
The project requires investments totalling $20.6 million dollars and is jointly funded by the federal and provincial governments, Télébec, the school boards, and the municipalities.
Télébec has pledged $5.1 million dollars towards the project, which will provide thousands of citizens with cutting edge equipment and improve their quality of life. Some of the important uses for High Speed Internet include telemedicine, distance education, telecommuting, and electronic commerce.
